Student Coalition

The NAMS Student Coalition (SC) work closely with the Board of Directors (BoD) to maintain a proactive and engaged student community. Both the SC and the BoD make provide support and mentorship for students who are leading or contributing to medical Spanish programs at their schools to follow best-practice steps to gain institutional support, find faculty to teach, and address common barriers/challenges. They channel opportunities to collaborate on and publish editorials, research articles, or other scholarly work on topics related to Medical Spanish.

 

Meet our SC Leaders for 2025-2026

Co-chairs

Deondra Montgomery is a third-year medical student at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She currently serves as Co-Director of the NAMS Student Coalition, having previously held the role of Director of Social Media. In addition, she has the privilege of serving on the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) National Board as the Chair of Public Relations and on the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) National Board of Directors as the External Affairs Committee Co-Chair. Through these roles, she continues to champion equitable representation, culturally competent care, and opportunities for underrepresented communities in medicine. 

In her free time, she enjoys boxing, lifting, hiking, painting, solo traveling, cuddling with her cat Mia, and creating social media content that uplifts and inspires others on similar paths.
